CDL International League News Article | | | Thursday, April 4th, 2024: 5-5 Day for Walters Juan Walters was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over Clippers Ballpark, collecting 5 hits, but wasn't able to win the game. He got his 15 minutes of fame and the Syracuse Chiefs got the 7-6 victory over the Columbus Clippers.
"Headlines and highlights are great, but it takes a lot of luster off of it because we lost the game," he expounded to the press after the game.
After the first three hits, everybody's in the ballpark was drawn to him each time Walters stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Columbus second baseman said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for high average is to relax, concentrate, and hit the ball where they ain't." That's exactly what he did today as Walters finished the game with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
J. Walters hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off B. Hilliard in the 9th.
