Run around Pro Player Stadium doing cartwheels, jumping for joy and waving to the crowd? Well, maybe you and I would do that, but not Craig Hansen -- that's not his way.
After he notched number 250, the 36-year-old Florida hurler spoke to the press like he always has -- in a soft, quiet voice. He wasn't doing any cartwheels or even anything resembling a jump for joy. "Obviously it feels very good," Hansen commented. "To win this many games, you've got to have a lot of help."
Hansen got his milestone victory by beating the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2. He held them to 7 hits in 8 innings and rung up 3 strikeouts with no walks.
After sharing his thoughts with the press, he went to the clubhouse. There he was greeted by the guys who had helped him get #250. His teammates showered him with champagne and then gave him a rousing round of applause. That got to him -- for the first time today, Hansen's face broke into a big smile.
Lifetime Hansen has registered a 250-146 record with a 3.23 ERA. | | Thursday, September 12th, 2030: Players Suspended in Cardinals-Rockies Donnybrook Jesse Garber of the St. Louis Cardinals was not happy with Manolo Acevedo and his frustration showed when he went after the Colorado player during yesterday's game at Busch Stadium. Both benches cleared as they rushed to the aid of their teammates. Order was soon restored as Garber and Acevedo were pulled away from each other. They were ejected from the game.
Both players were suspended 11 games by the league office as a result of their tussle.
"It's something that happens in baseball every once in a while," Garber commented later. "We get frustrated with another player and sometimes things go too far. We'll both take our suspensions and then come back ready to play. I got no hard feelings."
In 144 games this season Garber has compiled a .306 batting average with 160 hits and 12 home runs. He has also scored 83 times and knocked in 81 runs.
So far this season Acevedo has 15 wins and 10 losses and a 4.58 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 92-70, .568 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 6.0 GB | | Record at home | 46-35, .568 PCT | | Record on the road | 46-35, .568 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-7, .417 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 23-27, .460 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 21-18, .538 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 71-52, .577 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in May | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in June | 14-11, .560 PCT | | Record in July | 19-10, .655 PCT | | Record in August | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in September | 13-10, .565 PCT |
